Charter planes carry Italian tourists to Syria
Syria-Italy, Economics, 12/31/1999

The first charter plane carrying a group of Italian tourists to Syria landed on Tuesday evening at the Martyr Bassel al-Assad Airport in Lattakia (a coastal city). This first flight marks the inauguration of weekly air flights which will continue until next May.

Syrian Minister of Transport Mufid Abdul Karim gave instant instructions to give the utmost facilitation of the tourist flights arriving at the airport.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the al-Cham hotel board, Othman al-Aidi, who is also the chairman of the International Federation of Tourism, Hotels and Restaurants, said that resuming these flights to al-Bassel Airport on the occasion of the third millennium comes in implementation of an agreement signed between al-Cham company for hotels and its branch Chamtour (a transport company) on the one hand, and a group of major Italian tourism companies on the other, with the objective of encouraging Italian tourists to visit Syria.

Similar tourist groups will also arrive in Syria from other European countries in the same way and on the fall of the third millennium.

Furthermore, and in collaboration with Chamtour and Cham-car, al-Cham for hotels has prepared three different programs for Italian tourists in order to acquaint them with Syria's history and successive civilizations. The first program is to stay at the international Blue Beach Hotel (in Lattakia city) with tours in the province of Lattakia, while the second and third programs are to start from Lattakia, including visits covering Raas Shamra, Salaheddine castle, Jableh, Safita, Crac de Chevalier, Damascus, Maloula, Sednaya, Bosra, Palmyra, Deir ezz Zour, Aleppo, Hama, and Apamea and then the tourists are to return to Bassel Airport from which they will return to Milan.
