Government studies electoral code amendment, minister says
Morocco, Politics, 12/30/1999

The Moroccan government is currently studying the amendment of the electoral code, Interior Minister Ahmed Midaoui said.

Midaoui told the house of representatives (lower chamber of parliament) that a meeting was held with Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi on implementation of recommendations adopted by the latest national colloquy on local councils.

The amendment of the electoral code is meant to prepare for the next local and parliamentary elections in Morocco. The latest elections were held in 1996.
