Al-Rawabdeh denies being behind the resignation of Lawzi
Jordan, Politics, 12/30/1999

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh has denied being behind the resignation of Jordanian Transport Minister Nasser Lawzi from the government.

He also denied that any attack has been made against the former Jordanian minister of irrigation by missiles as has been recently rumored.

In a statement to the Saudi daily Okaz, the Jordanian prime minister said no disputes took place between him and Lawzi. He said, "I defy anyone who says that there is a dispute between me and him."

On Tuesday, King Abdullah II accepted the resignation of Lawzi and appointed instead of him, Minister of Communications Jamal al-Sareyra.

Political circles in Amman attributed Lawzi's resignation to the continued interference by the prime minister in his ministry's affairs and the political affairs currently existed between al-Rawabdeh and the chairman of the royal court, Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti, who is a relative of Lawzi.
