Jordanian minister denies plans for confederation including Jordan, Syria and Lebanon
Jordan-Regional, Politics, 12/30/1999
Jordanian Deputy Premier and Information Minister Ayman al-Majali has denied the existence of any project for a confederation including Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
In a statement to the Jordanian daily al-Dustour issued on Wednesday al-Majali said that talk about this issue is but a continuation of a proposal made several months ago on a unity between the three states, adding that this matter was then a mere proposal. He denied everything stated on this issue.
Al-Majali's statement was in reply to a report published by the Paris-based monthly al-Qarar magazine, which quoted Syrian sources as indicating the possibility of establishing a confederation including Jordan, Syria and Lebanon in the course of the forthcoming peace.
