Egyptian FM meets with Sudanese opposition member

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa on Tuesday in Cairo received the chairman of the Sudanese Democratic National Alliance opposition coalition, Muhammad Othman al-Merghani.

Talks dealt with proposed initiatives to achieve peace in Sudan in the context of the Libyan-Egyptian initiative for reconciliation in Sudan.

The two sides asserted the importance of coordination between the Libyan-Egyptian initiative and IGAD (Inter-governmental Authority on Development) initiative in order to restore reconciliation in Sudan.

Merghani stated that the Democratic National Alliance sees no necessity now to form a preparatory committee for the discussion meeting called for by the joint Libyan - Egyptian initiative which was to include representatives of the government and the opposition coalition.

Merghani said he conveyed to Moussa yesterday the resolutions reached by the coalition's leadership in its meeting in Kampala, Uganda concerning a comprehensive political solution.

Merghani discussed with Moussa the assembly paper, which includes his perception of comprehensive reconciliation.
