Jordanian coordination between Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the PA and Egypt in marketing religious tourism

Jordanian Minister of Tourism Aqel Beltaji has underlined the importance of coordination between Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan as well as the Palestinian government in marketing religious tourism on the occasion of the celebration of the fall of the third millennium and the beginning of the great Christian pilgrimage to the holy shrines and archaeological sites in the region on January 7, 2000.

In a meeting with Arab and foreign news agencies and TV correspondents, for whom the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism organized a trip to al-Maghtas site in the Jordanian valley, the site in which the Christ was baptized at the hands of John the Baptist in Beit Enya in Wadi Derar, the Jordanian minister indicated that the site was adopted by the Vatican as one of the first Jordanian sites to visit, besides Makawar, Neibu mountain, the Lady Church in Anjara and the shrine of Saint Mar Elias and Eleiya prophet.

The Jordanian minister also indicated that the Christian churches in Jordan will also organize a Christian pilgrimage on January 7 to al-Maghtas site, where prayers will be held and will be attended by more than 15,000 persons in addition to foreign pilgrims.

Arab and foreign media correspondents were shown in the field the al-Maghtas site, the churches, the caves and other discovered archaeological sites on al-Quds Tel (Mar Elyas) and the infrastructures the Jordanians have started to establish as well as preparations for the new millennium.
