Pan-Arab economic bloc important
Egypt, Economics, 12/28/1999
Presidential Advisor for Political Affairs Osama el-Baz underlined the importance of a gradual creation of a pan-Arab economic bloc until it matures to the shape of an Arab common market.
"Such market will pose as a foundation stone for the aspired Middle East common market," said el-Baz in a meeting with Hilwan University students, held at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels in Cairo.
"The Egyptian products have the potential to compete (with) the European peers because most of them are now observing the European standards," noted Baz.
"Egypt and the Arab world will be regionally secured only when the whole region becomes free from weapons of mass destruction including the nuclear, chemical and biological arms and the countries' commitment to avoiding attacks against any of their neighbors," added el-Baz.
"The challenges ahead of Egypt in the third millennium dictate a precipitation in developing education along with the upgrading of technology and scientific research, modernizing management and learning the lessons of the advanced nations such as Japan," expounded el-Baz.
