Fresh archeological excavation in Sohag
Egypt, Culture, 12/28/1999

Chairman of Antiquities Authority, Yehia El Masri said that the Egyptian mission of the Supreme Council for Antiquities excavated a complete city in the heart of Sohag's east mountain which dates back to the Ptolemaic period.

Also a small temple, part of which is erected with stones and the other engraved in the mountain, was also excavated.

Moreover, a collection of unique archeological pieces including earthen pottery and iron coins was discovered A royal painting of the Ptolemaic period engraved on a panel that records the historical and social incidents during this age was also found.

He added that excavation work began during the archeological survey that conducted annually.
All antiquities excavated were moved to Atribsi zone in Sohag to be preserved and cleaned and will be registered at Sohag Zone as a preliminary steps towards displaying them in Sohag archaeological museum.
