Torino Moroccans shocked by murder sentence
Morocco-Italy, Politics, 12/28/1999

The Moroccan community of Torino was baffled by the sentence of the city's appeals court against 4 Italians charged of the murder in July 1997 of a Moroccan national.

The group of drunk young Italians had injured and thrown into the Po river 26 year-old Abdallah Douimi after a row and threw bottles and rubbish at him till he drowned.

The city tribunal condemned on Dec. 12, 1998 the four people to 22 year-imprisonment to the satisfaction of Moroccans in Italy. The appeals court decided otherwise and sentenced two of the young men to 14 years and 9 years and a half. The terms will be spent in home-custody while the two others went scot free.

Moroccan Iman, Bouriki Bouchta, told "Corriere Della Sera" the Moroccan community was shocked because the trial might have been partial, the victim being a foreigner, while the community chairman said a march will be held at the end of Ramadan to protest the decision and ask for imprisonment.
