Damascus approves the visit of Yasser Amro
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 12/28/1999
Palestinian sources in Damascus said that PLO executive committee member Yasser Amro on Monday got a Syrian permit to visit Damascus at his desire to hold talks with the speaker of the Syrian Parliament (people's assembly), Abdul Qader Qaddoura, and with the assistant secretary general of the Baath Arab Socialist Party, Abdullah al-Ahmar.
The Palestinian sources said the Syrian permit was given for the Jordanian passport Amro carries and not for his passport released by the Palestinian government because his visit "has not come at the official invitation of the Syrian government."
No date was fixed for a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa because of al-Sharaa's involvement in preparations for the forthcoming negotiations with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.
