Lebanese president, people welcome freed detainees

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has vowed to exert further efforts to release all Lebanese prisoners from Khiam jail and other Israeli occupation prisons.
The Lebanese president congratulated the five released prisoners who arrived in Beirut at dawn on Monday.
President Lahoud asserted that the issue of the Lebanese detainees and prisoners in the Israeli jails is one of the priorities for the state of Lebanon.
Israel is still detaining in its prisons 33 Lebanese and more than 170 prisoners in Khiam jails inside the occupied part of south Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss has welcomed the release of the five Lebanese prisoners from the Israeli jails.
In a statement he made on Monday in Beirut, al-Hoss commended the efforts made by the German government which resulted in the return of the Lebanese citizens to their homeland and families.
Al-Hoss said the release of the Lebanese prisoners is a new victory for the Lebanese resistance and the Lebanese government in their struggle to liberate the occupied territories from the Israeli occupation.
Earlier, five Lebanese resistance men, who were detained in the Israeli jails inside the occupied Palestinian territories arrived in Beirut on Monday on board of a German plane. The release operation was made under the supervision of the International committee of the Red Cross ICRC. The released detainees were welcomed by a representative of the Lebanese President Jamil al-Sayyed, representative of the Hizbullah party, Lebanese political, parliamentary and military figures, families of the detainees and a great number of citizens.
