Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 12/27/1999
In a seminar held at Tanta Sports Club, Osama Al-Baz, Political Advisor of the President, asserted that Egypt has not interfered in recent events in Sudan since our policy is based on spreading welfare and stability in Sudan and rejecting any dismemberment of the Iraqi territories.
Al-Baz also urged the establishment of an Arab block to face international blocs at the age of globalization and WTO agreements.
He also said that Egypt is playing a major role on the Palestinian and Syrian tracks of negotiations, not less than that played by the United States.
"Syria is considering the Egyptian negotiations, managed to restore occupied territories," said Al-Baz.
In the same context, Baz added that Egypt is seeking to achieve a balance of power in the Middle East and free the region of all weapons of mass-destruction, including Israel's nuclear arms so as to achieve just and comprehensive peace.
On the other hand, Ambassador Fouad Youssef, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, for Sudanese affairs, called on all opposition forces in Sudan to cooperate with Egypt under President Mubarak so as to achieve reconciliation, and stability all over Sudan and guarantee its safety and sovereignty.
He added that Egypt supports Sudan and its legal leadership and aims at insuring a secure future and welfare for all the Sudanese people.
Baz also emphasized that the next stage will witness comprehensive reforms in Egypt, allowing all categories of the Egyptian society, including women and young people, to participate in the political life, with the aim of raising political awareness of all people, especially those in the countryside.
He highlighted the role of Egyptian universities, in the light of President Mubarak's directives for all universities to study the problems of the country and pay special attention to comprehensive development and participation in the political and economic reform in Egypt.
Baz concluded his speech by saying that all Upper Egypt governorates will obtain large investments in the next period, to help them develop their utilities and services, especially in villages.
