Sheikh Yassin admitted to hospital
Palestine, People, 12/27/1999

A member of the family of Hamas movement founder Sheikh Ahmad Yassin said that the sheikh was admitted to hospital after he had health problems.

Sheikh Yassin's son, Abdul Hamid Yassin, said that his father was admitted to al-Shefaa hospital in Gaza on Friday midnight after he had slight health problems and that he was suffering trouble breathing and described his state as stable.

Sheikh Yassin (63) suffers almost complete polio on his hands and legs. He has also almost lost his hearing.

Sheikh Yassin was released from the Israeli jails following the failed attempt made by the Israeli Mossad to assassinate the chairman of the political bureau of the Hamas movement in Jordan, Khaled Mashaal.

Sheikh Yassin was held in the Israeli jails for nine years. He was arrested in 1988 after being accused of establishing and leading the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas.
