Report: Ministerial reshuffle expected in Jordan
Jordan, Politics, 12/27/1999
The Jordanian daily al-Arab al-Youm issued on Sunday in Amman quoted sources which it described as well-informed as saying that a ministerial reshuffle in Jordan is "nearby."
The paper commented that what has made the reshuffle an evident was what recently happened "silently," as Jordanian Minister of Transport Nasser Lawzi submitted his resignation last Tuesday in protest against the interference of Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh in his authorities, and Lawzi left for London so another minister will be assigned to supervise the activities of the Ministry of Transport and carry out the tasks of the resigned minister until a reshuffle is made. The paper added that the reshuffle will target several ministers, whose names are mentioned in political circles.
The paper continued that the reshuffle has become evident and will be made immediately after the completion of discussions of the state's general budget at the Parliament and the budget's approval.
The Jordanian government, on the other hand, decided to have Friday and Saturday as the two-day weekend instead of Thursday and Friday.
