Morocco sets up prison-watch NGO

The national prison observatory OMP, a newly set up prison-watch NGO, held in Rabat Thursday a press-conference to highlight objectives and strategy for the defense of inmates' rights and upgrading of standards in detention.
The new body chaired by Abderrahim Jama and already boasting several local branches was set up by Barristers, artists, medical doctors and faculty professors means to see to strict adherence to international conventions.
OMP will be investigating abuse in jails and strive to update legislation to provide for decent detention conditions.
