Morocco ties with Senegal in trial match
Morocco-Senegal, Sports, 12/23/1999
Morocco on Wednesday tied 0-0 with Senegal in a trial match for the African Nations Cup (CAN 2000), to be co-hosted next January-February by Ghana and Nigeria.
The Match, played in the southern city of Agadir, provided a serious test for the Moroccans against a tough Senegalese side.
Senegal's German coach, Peter Shnitger, an expert of African football, lined up a classical African tactic, using physical strength and rigor.
The Moroccans missed four scoring chances, especially by Hassan Kachloul of Southampton (England) and Adil Ramzi of AZ Al-Kamar (Holland).
Morocco's French coach, Henri Michel, who has been under fire for the decline of the team's level, said the match was fruitful and helped reveal some shortcomings that will be corrected before the beginning of the CAN-2000.
Morocco is yet to play warming up matches against Trinidad Tobago and the French club of Nancy.
Morocco is drawn in CAN-2000 Group D with Nigeria, Tunisia and Congo.
