Agreement on a united administration for Mogadishu
Somalia, Politics, 12/23/1999
The main five Somali warring groups which control Mogadishu on Wednesday signed an agreement to establish a joint administration in the capital.
The agreement extends Mogadishu's suburbs as well where the joint administration will be in charge of supervising its main port and airport.
The leaders of the five groups-- Hussein Muhammad Aideed, Hussein Haj Boud, Othman Hussein Ali, Muhammad Qeinari Afrah and Ali Mahdi Muhammad-- stressed that the new administration will be "the first step towards the establishment of a central government in the country," following nine years of civil war.
