Jordan seeks oil cooperation with Iraq
Iraq-Jordan, Politics, 12/23/1999
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Wednesday received a message from Jordan's King Abdullah II that dealt with "bilateral relations between the two sisterly countries."
The Iraqi news agency said that Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib conveyed the message to the Iraqi president
Meanwhile, a Jordanian official in Amman said the message is connected with "bilateral relations, especially renewing the oil agreement which will be terminated by the end of the current month."
This is the first message sent by the Jordanian king to the Iraqi president since the king ascended to the throne in February.
Following his meeting with Iraqi Deputy Premier Hikmat al-Azawi, the Jordanian minister said, "Jordan is careful to maintain cooperation relations and expand its prospects in the areas of oil and trade." For his part, al-Azawi asserted the national "principles Iraq is linked to in its trade and economic relations with the sisterly Arab states and its care under all conditions to give priority to the Arab states for serving common national interests."
The Jordanian minister also met with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz.
