Administrative red tape limits German investments in Morocco
Morocco-Germany, Economics, 12/22/1999
Administrative red tape and the absence of promotion campaign on Morocco in Germany limits German investments in the kingdom, said German ambassador to Rabat, Hans-Dieter Scheel.
In an interview published Tuesday by "Al Bayane" daily, the diplomat said the administrative and bureaucratic slow procedures, the difficulty to acquire plots of lands are all elements that hamper the flow of German investments in Morocco.
He said he is amazed that Morocco has no apparatus in Germany to conduct promotional and advertisement campaigns. The embassy alone is not enough, he said.
Morocco has to face fierce competitiveness, especially in the sectors of tourism and export-oriented industries, the diplomat said adding that German investors will go to the country where possibilities and conditions are best.
The diplomat also touched on the issue of the Sahara saying that Germany was backing the efforts made by the United Nations and the U.N settlement plan. He added that the core of the problem lies actually in Relations between Morocco and Algeria.
