EL-Sayeda Aisha's Mosque typifies Islamic architecture
Egypt, Culture, 12/21/1999

The honorable Elsayeda Aisha was the daughter of Gaa'far-el-Sadeq, son of Alimam Muhammad Elbager, son of Imam Zein El-Abdin, son of Imam El-Hussein, son of Imam Ali Ibn Abi Taleb. She was also the sister of the prominent Imam Mussa El-Kazem.

Sayeda Aisha was a devout and pious worshipper. she was known for her love of people and her good deeds.

The venerable lady died in 145 A.H/762 A.D and was buried in Cairo in the cemetery of Bab El-Qarafah.

In 1176 A.H /1762 A.D, Egyptian Prince Abdel-Rahman Katkhuda built a mosque which was named after Sayeda Aisha.

Prince Abd-Rahman was the son of prince Othman Katkhuda, from whom he inherited his wealth and property.

He was a philanthropist who took great care of Cairo's mosques, especially those that encompass tombs of the descendants of Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him).

He thus restored and renovated the El-Hussein, El-Sayeda Zeinab, El-Sayeda Sakina, El-Sayeda Nafisa and El-Sayedaisha's mosque.

Prince Abdel-Rahman katlkhuda (died in ll90A H/l776AD) also established a number of arched bridges, mosques, public fountains and markets throughout Cairo, and his engraved name is still visible on most of them.

The magnificent buildings of his time and their respective ornamentation clearly demonstrate Prince Kathuda'a adeptness in designing and carrying out his various architectural projects.

El-Sayeda Aisha's mosque, which encompass her tomb and was built by Prince Katkhuda, is known for its simple architectural style.

The western facade of the mosque features two doors to either side of the mosque's minaret. One of the doors leads to the prayer nave, while the other leads to El-Sayeda Aisha's tomb which is under a simply designed dome and has a colored marble floor.

Over the years, El-Sayeda Aisha's Mosque was renovated and restored; a rostrum and miharb were constructed and the walls were decorated with colored marble and engravings.

El-Sayeda Aisha's Mosque, which encloses the coffin of the dignified lady, is located south of Cairo's center and is visited by people from all over the world.

Despite its simple architectural style, the mosque is a fine example of fine Islamic architecture.
