Jordan to issue new currencies with new king's pictures
Jordan, Economics, 12/21/1999
The Jordan government decided Sunday to change Jordan's banknotes and coins for new ones carrying on one side the picture of King Abdullah bin Hussein.
An official statement said the current currencies, which have the picture of the late King Hussein, would be legal and acceptable until the government pulled them out.
The decision did not say when the new currency would be dealt with.
According to the constitution, currencies should have the name and picture of the king ruling the country.
Jordanian financial sources have recently unveiled intentions to produce a new 50-dinar bill alongside the current bills, half a dinar, one, five, 10 and 20 dinars.
