The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC/based in Jeddah) has invited the European Union to join it in preparations for a universal declaration on inter-civilization dialogue with the coordination of the United Nations and other organizations.

The OIC said in a statement it has launched the call to the EU during a recent meeting in Helsinki, Finland. The meeting was devoted to several problems, including the Palestinian problem, the Middle East peace process, the situation in Chechnya and Afghanistan, the future of the Balkans and participation in UN peacekeeping operations.

The European Union and the OIC also examined efforts by the two regional organizations to establish peace in several regions of the world and build a new world order based on balance and justice, says the statement.
