Al-Bashir: parliament dissolution was to save Sudan

Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has explained the reasons that prompted him to declare the state of emergency in his country on Sunday.

The president met members of the parliament and told them that "he tried overcoming the (internal) disputes yet it has escalated and all attempts to contain it have failed" adding that dissolving the parliament was not out of arbitrariness or preventing liberties but to save Sudan.

He stated that the aim behind the measure is to unify the national leadership and eliminate contradictions between the country's establishments and what he called "duality" in decision making. President al-Bashir said that the process of national reconciliation and dialogue continues with all parties.

Some deputies of the dissolved council spoke during the meeting and expressed their confidence in the taken procedures and others called for working on patching up the conflict and unifying the voice of the national party.

In Cairo the opposition Sudanese Umma party demanded convening a conference for the opposition and the Sudanese government to find a mechanism for coordination between the Egyptian - Libyan initiative and the IGAD initiative.

The party also asked the necessity of convening a meeting for the foreign ministers of Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Aritaria, Egypt and Libya for determining the way by which the cooperation will take place between the two initiatives that aim at solving the internal Sudanese conflict.
