France: Progress in Security Council draft resolution on Iraq insufficient

France considers the progress that has been made in preparing a UN Security Council resolution concerning Iraq as insufficient and demanded more explanations concerning the draft presented by UK to the council, which is currently discussing the draft.

Diplomatic sources in the French embassy in Cairo said "Paris hopes to reach a decision that could be voted on by all members of the council."

The sources also stated that French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine held phone consultations with his Russian counterpart, Igor Ivanov, and there is a great approach in the points of view between Russia and France concerning the issue of suspending the sanctions imposed on Iraq.
