Al-Sawarkah files case against Israel asking $3 billion
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 12/17/1999
A northern Sinai court has decided to release a judgement in a case filed by the most famous Egyptian prisoner in the Israeli jails, Mahmoud al-Sawarkah, who was released by the Israeli authorities in February this year. The judgement will be announced in a session on January 15, 2000.
In the case he filed against Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, al-Sawarkah asked for a compensation of US $3 billion for damages inflicted on him, as he had been tortured in the Israeli jails for 22 years.
Al-Sawarkah added that he will resort to the International Court of justice in the Hague if he gets a ruling giving him compensation and Israel refuses to implement it.
