Lebanon prepares to ask Israel for compensation
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 12/17/1999
Well-informed Lebanese sources said the Lebanese Foreign Ministry has prepared its files for the forthcoming negotiations with Israel, according to the eight principles announced earlier by the speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri.
The sources added that among these files is Lebanon's demands that Israel restore the Lebanese territories that had been taken by Israel, including seven villages and surrounding areas of the al-Wazzani river springs which were occupied in the first Arab-Israeli wars in 1948 and stayed under occupation despite the signing of the truce agreement between Lebanon and Israel in 1949.
Lebanon also intends to persist in being paid compensation. In this respect, media sources quoted a source at the Lebanese Foreign Ministry as saying that this compensation is estimated at US $8 billion, including US $3.3 billion in losses inflicted on the infrastructure and US $4.7 billion as compensation for civilian victims.
