Lebanese resistance breaks into Sujoud position in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 12/16/1999
While the April Understanding Monitoring Committee held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss several Lebanese complaints against Israel for targeting civilians in its attacks, the occupation forces renewed their violation of the understanding's provisions by carrying out air raids and artillery bombardment that resulted in further damages to the property of civilians.
On Wednesday, Israeli warplanes carried out two raids against the Aqmata and Mleita areas in the al-Tuffah district.
Lebanese security sources said the Israeli warplanes fired air-to-surface missiles against the targeted areas.
In the morning the Israeli occupation forces renewed their attacks against areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon. The Israeli artillery positioned in Tallet al-Abbad and al-Tibeh project bombarded the outskirts of Hadatha, Eita al-Jabal and Barachit towns, al-Zaatar mountain, al-Qeseyah valley and the outskirts of Qibreiha town.
Moreover, the Israeli bombardment of Zouter East town resulted in wounding Lebanese driver Ali Ahmad Hamrous (33), whose car was burnt.
Lebanese security sources said the Israeli bombardment also resulted in damaging several houses in Shawkin town and targeted the residential areas in Maifdoun town and the outskirts of Jabal al-Butoum village, Zibqin, Saddiqin, Yater, al-Jabal al-Kabeer and Majdal Suloum under intensive flights by Israeli warplanes over south Lebanon.
In retaliation, the Lebanese resistance forces stormed in a sudden attack an Israeli position in the south Lebanon town of Sujoud. The resistance confirmed in a statement that the resistance hoisted the resistance banners in the position, after detonating the mines implanted around it. They destroyed the western fortifications of the position, killing and wounding its elements.
The attack, the statement added, was coupled with widespread attacks along the front launched by the resistance men against Israel and its militia allies' positions in Beer Klab, Radar, Hardoun, Shama, Teir Harfa, Balat, Hamid, Rashaf, Barachit, Hadatha, Muheibeisat, Jamouseh, the Salaa al-Mutalath hills, Tibeh Debsheh, Sweida, Ali al-Taher, Beufort and Kassaret al-Aroush.
A pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army militia source acknowledged the attacks launched by the Lebanese resistance against the positions held by Israeli forces and their agents, but gave no mention of the size and volume of losses and casualties.
