On the three Gulf islands
Jordan-Iran, Politics, 12/16/1999
The Iranian ambassador in Amman has stressed that the question of Iran's withdrawal from the three Gulf islands is an internal issue. This was expressed in a message sent by the Iranian ambassador to the speaker of the Jordanian parliament, Abdul Hadi al-Majali, in reply to a memorandum sent earlier by some 30 Jordanian parliamentarians to the Iranian leadership calling for the withdrawal of Iran from the three islands.
In his message the Iranian ambassador stated that a misunderstanding took place between Iran and the UAE over Abu Mousa island and that this issue has been discussed by the two countries.
He continued, "It is not proper that Muslim and brotherly parliamentarians to ask an Islamic state to give up its historical right on part of its national territory."
