Over 1,800 Persons Applied for Compensations for Repression-Caused Damage
Morocco, Politics, 12/15/1999
More than 1,800 people have submitted files with the Moroccan independent arbitration commission in charge of setting compensations for victims of forced disappearances and arbitrary detention, the Moroccan human rights minister announced on Tuesday.
The commission "immediately set itself to study the files," Mohamed Aujjar told the Chamber of Advisors, upper house of parliament.
The Commission, which was set up by King Mohammed VI, will set the amounts of compensations according to each case and the extent of damage incurred.
The Commission's decisions are final and are not open to any appeal.
King Mohammed VI had repeatedly stressed that the promotion of human rights is on top of his priorities.
