Sudanese information minister: El-Bashir saved the country from disaster
Sudan, Politics, 12/15/1999

Sudanese Information Minister Ghazi Salah El-Din said the steps taken by Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir are legal, adding that the crisis between the Sudanese president and head of parliament, Hassan Turabi, started a long time ago.

He said El-Bashir, who declared a state of emergency and dissolved the parliament, tried negotiations and attempted to solve the conflict peacefully but the efforts were futile. He said what El-Bashir did saved the country from a political disaster.

Regarding specifying a date for parliamentary elections in Sudan, El-Din said this will be announced by the public elections organization and that it will take place on time in April 2000 without a change.
