Syrian citizens in the Golan observe 18th anniversary of annexation
Syria-Israel, Politics, 12/15/1999

The Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights on Tuesday carried out a general strike on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the announcement of Israel of annexing the Syrian Golan Heights on December 14, 1981, stressing their continued clinging to the Syrian identity, to their homeland Syria and their categorical rejection of the Israeli occupation of their territories.

News reports from the occupied Golan said a general strike prevailed in whole villages in the Golan, where schools and trade centers were shut down.

In a statement, AFP stressed that the majority of the Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan refused the annexation decision and asserted their adherence to their Syrian identity and total opposition to giving it up following the decision taken by the Israeli Knesset in December 1981, annexing the Golan and enforcing the Israeli occupation of it.
