Abdul Meguid feels assured of political conditions in Sudan
Sudan-Regional, Politics, 12/14/1999

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid made a phone call to Sudan's permanent delegate at the AL and its ambassador in Cairo, Ahmed Abd El-Halim, to learn about the latest developments in Khartoum.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also made a phone call to the Sudanese deputy ambassador, Abd El-Rahaman Mokhtar, that tackled the latest developments and the effect of dissolving the parliament on the Sudanese peace process.

A Sudanese source in the Sudanese embassy in Cairo said, "Phone calls made by the Arab league were focused on the latest developments in Sudan to learn the real status there and to confirm the importance of Sudan's unity."

A source in the Arab League stated, "The league is closely following up on the situation in Sudan," and that it "cares a lot about security and stability in Sudan."
