Khatami: Animosity with US is due to its policy

Iranian President Mohamed Khatami said yesterday that Iran's animosity toward the USA is a result of its "incorrect" policy toward the Iranian people during the 26 years between 1953 and 1979.

Khatami used a meeting with the university students to recall the coup d'etat support by the USA that brought back the royalty in 1953, the incident after which the modern Iranian student's movement was born.

The president added during the meeting in which he answered the students' questions, saying, "When we say a high wall of mistrust exists between Iran and the US, it is not a mere slogan. It is the Iranian nation who feels that from August 19, 1953 since the 1979 victory of the Islamic revolution, the US had dominated its fate."
