Regional, Religion, 12/10/1999
The Rabat-based Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) has published the translation in French and English of a guide of women's rights in Islam.
Published by the ISESCO and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), the book is designed to popularize the concept of women rights and enlighten the public opinion in the Muslim world on these rights, an ISESCO statement said.
The book deals with Islamic rules and the position of Islam on women. It refutes in an academic manner allegations that Islam denies women's rights.
The two authors, Mimoun Ishou from the Marrakesh law college, and Kamal Ismael from the Rabat law college, underline that Islam guarantees equal rights to freedom, the right to file a lawsuit and the right to inheritance.
