Moroccan democratic bloc determined to carry on joint action

Four Moroccan political parties gathered in the democratic Koutla (Arabic name for bloc) voiced determination to carry on their action within this bloc.

The leadership of the four parties said in a statement released at the end of a meeting held on Wednesday that they will carry on action within the bloc, which they deemed a great civic gain that created a major dynamic in the Moroccan society.

The four former opposition parties, namely the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), the Istiqlal Party (PI), the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS) and the Organization for Democratic and Popular Action (OADP), said they decided to hold periodical meetings to consolidate consultation and consequently ensure success to the current political experience.

The Wednesday meeting assessed the general political situation in Morocco in light of social and political developments and the responsibility that the Koutla will be shouldering in this historic juncture, the statement said.

Debates focused on the kingdom's territorial integrity and on outstanding political, social and economic issues.

Three of the koutla members, namely the USFP, the PI and the PPS are participating in the Socialist-led coalition government. The OADP is not in the cabinet but it backs the government's action.
