Government wants social dialogue resumption
Morocco, Politics, 12/10/1999
The government is keen on finding the right formula for social dialogue to resume, the minister in charge of relations with parliament, Ahmed Bouzoubaa, said Thursday in the wake of the weekly government council.
The minister told the press the government would stick to social dialogue as an efficient means of solving problems and deplored the "transient crisis." He urged all parts to look for a new approach to dialogue "avoiding confrontation" and enabling the country to "take up development challenges."
Bouzoubaa recalled clarifications by employment minister on the enforcement of the "August 1st agreement" by the government and its proposals for last week's sixth round and asked the media not to overblow the "breakdown" of dialogue.
The three major trade unions pulled out, last week, of the sixth round meeting of social dialogue chaired by Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi. Union delegates left Cabinet members and delegates of the Confederation Generale Des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM, enterprise association) saying the government recanted commitments made in meetings held in preparation for what should have been the sixth and final round of social dialogue.
