Paris expels to Damascus Palestinian refugee asylum-seekers
Palestine-France, Politics, 12/10/1999

Sources at the French Ministry of the Interior said on Wednesday that some 40 Palestinian refugees from the camps in Lebanon who arrived in the French capital through Damascus were returned to Damascus.

The France - Palestine society, which is a French organization in solidarity with the Palestinian people, said those Palestinians left Damascus by "incorrect" travel documents heading for Cuba through Paris, but they asked for political asylum in France once they had arrived in Paris.

The society added that several other refugees are waiting for their asylum applications to be studied by the French authorities.

The society asserted that, "The transport of refugees from the Palestinian camps in Lebanon to Paris through Damascus is made by a gang taking documents and necessary licenses" for a sum that ranges between US $2000 and $5000.
