Barak assures stopping the new settlement projects
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 12/9/1999
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak on Tuesday attempted to defuse the crisis between the Palestinians and Israel by saying that his government will not establish any new settlement projects until reaching a final agreement with the Palestinians, but the Palestinians demanded a complete freeze for all settlements.
At the same time, Jewish extremists demonstrated in Jerusalem against opening a new door to Al Aqsa Mosque, as the Jews burnt the Palestinian flag in the yard of the holy mosque, where the work is being done to open the new door.
Barak agreed on opening the door according to the demand of the Islamic endowment in Jerusalem, saying that it is necessary because of the great demand during the holy month of Ramadan.
