Iraq vows to foil British draft at the UN
Iraq-UN, Politics, 12/9/1999
Iraq said on Wednesday it will foil the British draft resolution at the UN, stressing it prefers to be exposed to military strikes instead of approving "a repressive resolution."
In a press conference he held on Wednesday at Baghdad University, Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan said his country can foil the objectives of the British project. He stated that the project aims at undermining Iraq's sovereignty and political and economic options and imposing colonialism on it.
Ramadan stressed that Iraq will not permit the return of international experts on dismantling weapons and described them as "spies."
He added: "We are confident that the UN Security Council will not be able to release a decision than can lift the siege imposed on Iraq under the US hegemony on its resolution, yet we still honor its other members who understand the question of Iraq."
On Tuesday Ramadan announced that Baghdad prefers to receive a new British-US strike instead of approving the British project providing for suspending the sanctions imposed on Iraq against a new inspection system for its arsenals.
