Report: Jordanian divan chief visited Lebanon
Jordan-Lebanon, Politics, 12/9/1999

The London-based al-Sharq al-Awsat paper said on Wednesday, quoting well-informed Jordanian sources, that the chairman of the Jordanian royal court, Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti, last Sunday paid a secret visit to Lebanon which lasted for two days, during which he conveyed a message from King Abdullah II to Lebanese officials pertaining to the Middle East peace process, especially on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks.

The sources stated that al-Kabareiti's visit came following a telephone call made on Saturday between Jordan's King Abdullah, while he was South Korea, and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

For his part, the Jordanian minister of transport, who is also the acting foreign minister, Nasser al-Louz, confirmed reports of al-Kabareiti's visit to Lebanon, but he stated that the visit was a private family visit of no formalities.
