Maadi Valley, cradle of ancient Egyptian
Egypt, Culture, 12/7/1999
Degla Valley at Maadi desert with all its rocks and caves is a witness to the old age and most probably the cradle of the ancient Egyptian.
Degla Valley still bears remains of the old age with rocks surrounding it as well as the gray and the golden caves extending several meters far along its edges. In spite of its virgin nature, it has become a place visited by foreign inhabitants at Maadi after they have discovered the charm of the old age, they were even about to turn it into a sacred place that tells the history and the civilization of Man Before Century (B.C).
This reflects an image of the ancient civilization at Maadi-Qattameya district that was inhabited by the ancient Egyptian who made his tools out of the solid white limestone, and shows the emergence of the urban communities where some individuals were specialized in making weapons and tools whereas others used them in self-defense as well as in earning their living.
While others were specialized in planting the land and reaping the harvest as it is proved by the presence of the sickle.
A fourth group skinned the hunted animals using the knife and the ax, as well. Other fifth group knocked the trees down by the use of the chisel. Thus, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment announced the valley a nature reserve since December 1998. Also, a campaign has been launched for cleaning up the place and turning it into a tourist sight that tells the human history especially after the discovery of different and rare kinds of animals like Dorkas deer, red wolf, Nubian mountain goat, in addition to 64 different kinds of plant, 20 kinds of turtles, 12 rare kinds of endangered birds.
Besides, at Maadi-Qattameya desert, stone tools made out of the brown-colored flint were discovered to be polished by the ancient Egyptian so as to cut plants, hunt animals, or defend himself. Such stone tools represent the Early Paleolithic Period that goes back to more than 600,000 years.
In Egypt, the bottom of the land is still filled with secrets that tell all about Manšs life.
