French coach Troussier made ambassador for Morocco's World Cup bid
Morocco, Sports, 12/7/1999

Renowned French coach Philippe Troussier was made ambassador for the promotion of Morocco's bid to host the 2006 World Cup.

Troussier, who currently coaches the national team of Japan, had led the Moroccan clubs of Sporting Sale and Fath of Rabat.

Troussier joins several world football figures who back Morocco's efforts to host the planetary competition.

Morocco is competing with South Africa, Germany, England and Brazil to host the planetary event.

Part of its efforts to sway world opinion towards its bid, Morocco has rallied several African football and art stars and made them ambassadors.

These include renowned Senegalese singer Youssou N'dor, who sang the official song of the 1998 World Cup in France, singer Salif Keyta of Guinea, winner of the Golden Disc and bestseller for 5 years.

The African football stars included winners of the African Golden Ball: Salif Keyta of Mali, Mamadou Kamara of Guinea, Ahmed Faras, Mohamed Timoumi and Baddou Zaki of Morocco.
