Head of Spanish opposition visits Morocco
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 12/7/1999
Secretary general of the Spanish Labor Socialist Party (PSOE, opposition), Joaquim Almunia, started this Tuesday a two-day visit to Morocco, at the invitation of Moroccan Premier, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, who heads the Moroccan Socialist Party (USFP).
Sources close to the Spanish party told MAP's office in Madrid that Almunia will attend a lunch hosted by the Moroccan premier and meet other Cabinet members.
Moroccan-Spanish talks will cover relations between Morocco and the European Union, the issue of Moroccan immigrants in Spain and cooperation in fisheries.
Spanish trawlers have ceased all fishing activities in Moroccan waters since Morocco has not renewed the fisheries accord binding it to the European Union which expired last Nov. 30.
