British minister confers with representatives of Iraqi opposition in London
Iraq-UK, Politics, 12/7/1999

British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Peter Hain held a meeting on Monday in London with the representatives of the Iraqi opposition who take London as a headquarters, in order to discuss latest developments in Iraq and the efforts made by the Iraqi opposition to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

A news bulletin released by the British Foreign Office that was circulated among reporters on Monday said that during the meeting, discussions dealt with the proposal by Britain and Holland at the UN Security Council of a partial lifting of the sanctions imposed on Iraq in exchange for Baghdad's acceptance of a new system for inspection of Iraq's weapons.

Talks also dealt with the aid provided by Britain to the Iraqi opposition to increase its ability to challenge the Iraqi government.
