KDP official: The Kurds adhere to Iraq's unity
Iraq, Politics, 12/6/1999

The Kurdish Democratic Party has asserted that Iraq's Kurds adhere to the unity of the Iraqi people and nation, but they are asking for democracy, multiplicity and the self-rule for the Kurdish region.

Omar Butani, the official for Arab relations in the party who is currently visiting Cairo to present the Kurdish people's cause, said in press statements yesterday that the Kurds want to continue living inside a unified Iraq, but in the framework of democracy and multiplicity while obtaining self-rule.

He said the Kurds want to be able to appoint Kurdish ministers in the federal government and Kurdish deputies to the republic's president, saying that the census of the Kurdish people reaches 6 million citizens-- one third of the whole Iraqi people.
