African Mothers' Association at UN raises funds for Moroccan project
Morocco, Politics, 12/6/1999
The United Nations African Mothers' Association (UNAMA) organized last week a fund-raising lunch to finance a training center for Moroccan disabled women and young girls.
The funds raised during the event that was chaired by the spouse of the U.N secretary general, Mrs Nane Annan, will finance the equipment of the center located in the Middle Atlas Mountain province of Sefrou, some 240 km to the northeast of Rabat.
The project was initiated by the spouses of Moroccan diplomats accredited to the United Nations to struggle against poverty in the rural world, especially the poverty affecting women.
The program of the center provides for literacy courses and vocational training to help disabled women and young girls find jobs and be integrated in their community's life.
The project will be supervised by a Moroccan NGO "ESPOD" that endeavors to promote woman-run enterprises and by the spouses of Moroccan diplomats to the U.N.
