African women arrested in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia-Africa, Politics, 12/6/1999
The Saudi daily al-Youm issued on Sunday said that the Saudi Authorities arrested some 29 African women, many of them carrying the AIDS virus, who entered Saudi Arabia under the pretext of performing al-Haj rituals.
The paper added that the women practiced "immoral crafts" and that they "were arrested to the east of Saudi Arabia, where they had arrived after they stayed in West Mecca, where they claimed they are in al-Haj rituals."
The paper continued that in order to cover their "illegal works, those women, many of them having the HIV virus, worked as servants and photographers in celebrations held especially for women," SANA reported.
