December Commencing the celebrations of the third millenium in Bethlehem

The celebrations of the third millenium started today in Bethlehem City in the West Bank at where Jesus Christ was born.
Palestinian President Yasser Arafat will open the celebrations by lighting a large Christmas tree in the main square of Bethlehem.
The officials visiting the city will include Pope John Pual II and other leaders from the world's countries.
Arafat hopes to support his international position through the millenium and his demand for an independent Palestinian state by hosting prominent personalities that visit the area.
