16 members of Armed Islamic Group killed in Algeria

Governmental security sources said yesterday that more than 16 members of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) were killed by Algerian security forces in a base nearly 200 kilometers west of the Algerian capital.
The sources said the operation started on last Thursday when governmental troops attacked El-Shafta village, which was dominated by the GIA when its inhabitants got tired of the escalating violence in the area.
