Regional-United Arab Emirates, Politics, 12/2/1999

The Arab League issued a press statement on the 28th anniversary of Iran's occupation of three Gulf islands, Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Mousa, only two days before the United Arab Emirates' independence.

The statement said the Arab League always adheres to developing Arab - Iranian relations because rectifying them helps the renewal of its stable stance in supporting the UAE's right and sovereignty over these islands.

It added, "We urge Iranian Islamic Republic to take a responsible decision to express its good intentions and its said directions to practical steps in responding the the Emirates' initiative which is Arabicly, Islamicaly and Internationally supported, which aims at solving the problem of the three occupied islands peacefully."
